It's Been Kind of Crazy

I've been a little absent on this blog of mine. Life has been quite the whirlwind lately.

First off, if you did not know Andrew and I moved at the beginning of August! We are so in love with our new place.
It's a 2 bedroom 1 bath. It has central air, a washer and dryer, bigger rooms, crown molding.
And other little things that I am obsessed with, and others may call me weird.
Like more counter space in the kitchen. And a kitchen faucet that can spray down dishes.
(I screamed when I found that out!)
I thought we would miss our first apartment because it was home,
but since moving into our new apartment I have not missed it once!

^In front of our new apartment^

A few weeks after we moved Andrew had surgery.
Earlier this year, he would wake up in the middle of the night with severe pain in his lower back.
I would massage his back and put heat on it until the pain was at a level he could go back to sleep.
We had no clue what it was. Then in the summer he could start to feel the pain expand to his
side and stomach.
It was happening more frequently and the pain was starting to happen in the day as well.
He decided that it was something that needed to be looked at.
Blood tests were done and the numbers were way high. Normal ranges were in the 50's and Andrew was in the 900's.
And yes, I meant to put 2 zeros, not a typo. That's how high his levels were.
Long story short, we found out he had gallstones.

We looked and studied several different options of what to do because Andrew did not want to have surgery.
Last thing on his list. But in the end that is what we ended up doing.

^He looks so mellow here, but it was really a hard thing for him^

Surgery went well and he was literally up and walking around 3 hours later.
We did some grocery shopping (because I didn't think to do that before the surgery?)
for foods that he would be better for him to eat.

Recovery has been so far so good. And he's starting to eat normal food again versus
apple sauce, rice cakes, and pudding.

Before all of this happened we did manage to tube down the Provo River.
We try doing this once a summer. The water is always freezing but you get numb and used to it.
And as you are going down the river the scenery is beautiful. We love doing it.

Later that day we met up with Andrew's family up at Temple Square for the Pioneer Day Concert.
I absolutely loved it because it was music from the Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals.
We got home and then out of no where I got really sick with a major bug. Andrew was amazing and took care of me
and we accidentally called 911. My apple watch slipped in between the bed and the nightstand and in between that slipping it
called 911 and they were on the line for about 2 minutes before we realized we called them. Oh my word! I told them I was
so sorry and it was a complete accident. Andrew took the phone from me to explain and they questioned wondering why I  could not explain the situation. I was lying on the floor with a bowl right next to me. They called off the police that
were coming over to our apartment. Cannot believe that happened.

Those are the big crazy things.
Mini things:
a blood vessel burst in my eye. no pain, no vision loss, but I looked so scary.
a parking ticket when moving.
endless studying and homework even in the summer.
long hours at work.

It will be so good when things get settled back to a normal pace.

But we have been enjoying our pool days.
exploring our new area. we live so much closer to downtown and it's so fun to walk around and see it all.
mini date nights at home.

Life has had it's little rough patches lately but overall we're doing pretty ok :)

The Fourth

The Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays. It's probably a tie with Christmas.
Andrew and I had such a fun time celebrating the 4th. We partied hard. When we got home
at the very end of the day Andrew was OUT!

We started our day going to the parade.
I'm a fan. Andrew is not. But he comes with me anyways (thanks love).
Visited family, ate pizza and homemade ice cream, swam, and watched fireworks (my absolute favorite).

^Waiting for fireworks to start^

We did some fireworks at the Earl's home and then we changed our location to University Parkway so we could watch the
Stadium of Fire- fireworks show. If you're looking for a free firework display, that's a good one. It has not disappointed yet.
We just set up our chairs in an area across from the stadium and our seats were excellent. And we walked home because
we live really close. We love avoiding traffic.

It's days like this that makes me really glad to be an American.  <3

If anyone has any favorite 4th of July traditions they would like to share I would love to see them!
I'm always looking for new ways to make days like this special.

Went to the Lake. Bear with me.

This week Andrew and I went to Bear Lake with his family. The last and only time I was here was with Andrew.
We had just started our long distance relationship. He came up to Logan and from there we traveled to Bear Lake.
We stayed at a local KOA and we each brought our own tent to sleep in. Before the trip I asked my parents for a tent
and other camping supplies. How the conversation with my parents went:

Me: "Hey Andrew and I are going camping. Can I borrow a tent?"
Parents: "Sure, here you go."
Me: "This is Blake's old tent and I think the poles are broken."
Parents: "No, we just used it at Lake Powell last year, the poles are fine."
Me: "Ok then."

When Andrew and I were setting up our tents, I get my tent out to set it up but I had a problem. I could not find the poles.
I thought they were broken, but no, they were non existent. Turns out my parents used my tent which had the poles in full
contact and present. Blake left the poles somewhere a long time ago. And that's the tent I got. Blake's.

And that night I slept in Andrew's tent. When I told my parents that story they thought it was the funniest thing ever.
I did warn them in advance.

This time with the Earl's we had our own town home rental. No tents and no missing poles. haha.

When Andrew and I were in Bear Lake we went in September and the weather was definitely cooling off.
This time around we went the summer and the weather was much for enjoyable.

We got a ski-do, a 2 person kayak, and a paddle board (my fav).
We enjoyed our time there so much. It's such a good summer place to go.

^Ryan was paddling along and the ore broke out of nowhere^

We literally soaked up the sun. Not even joking.
Lesson learned: Always, always apply sunscreen and reapply.
^My lobster legs^
This was by far the worst sunburn of my life.
I mean, if I sat or stood still for too long it was so painful to move.
It felt like my skin was stretched out tight so when I would bend after staying still, no bueno.
I was walking like an old lady for a couple of days. haha.

The next day we went and toured a local cave nearby. One of the best things to do after getting a  sunburn.
Out of the rays of the sun that would hurt even through layers of clothing.

^In the cave there was this staircase, good thing I've been working out!^

Back at the town home we played Saboteur which is a game that Ryan brought back from his mission. I think I lost every time but
I still loved it. In the game you are either a miner or a saboteur and the object is to sabotage the other person's game plan.
I introduced Ryan to my favorite game, Camel Up and he loved it. We played that game on repeat.

We swam (at night when the sun was not out), read, ate the famous raspberry shakes,
and applied lots and lots of aloe vera.

We went back home but we didn't want our vacation to end.
There is a trail near Andrew's home that overlooks the valley and we hiked that and then went to roast
marshmallows over the campfire after.

I love days like this.

26 for 26

I have always loved reading.
When I was around 7 or 8 and it was bedtime, my door would be slightly ajar with light
coming into my bedroom from the hallway in a tiny strip. I would grab my book and place
it in the light so I could read.

And one time during the summer when I was around 15 my parents actually
grounded me from reading so I could hang out with my friends instead.

Then I went to college and it was way more fun to watch Netflix after class.
(did anyone else have this problem?)
And my dorm room... let's just say there never was ever a dull moment.
Reading went out the window.
And new habits formed.

I wanted to read more. I missed it.
And books are 99% usually better than the movie anyways.
I came up with a goal and I wanted to read 25 books before I turned 26
and I did it!
It actually turned into 26 for 26 because I just kept going.

Work and the Glory 1-9
Harry Potter 1-7
The Fault in our Stars
Blackmoore
The Happiness Project
The Other Side of Heaven
Cheers to Eternity
Safe Haven
More than the Tattooed Mormon
When Faith Endures
The Thief Lord
The Hiding Place

I have rekindled my love for reading and it's heaven.
My next goal is to read my favorite children's lit novels plus whatever else floats my boat.
If anyone has any good book recommendations I am all ears.

Willkommen Zuhause!

Or in English, Welcome Home!

Last week my brother-in-law came home from his LDS mission.
We have not seen him for 2 years except for skype calls home on Mother's Day and Christmas.
His plane landed around 12:00am so we got to the airport around 10:00pm to make sure we got a prime spot.

He left shortly after Andrew and I were married and I feel the time went by so fast!
A lot of things have happened but not much has changed.

Here are some of the many pictures that we took + a video that I put together to capture the moments.

This Day is my Favorite Day

Today we celebrate 2 years and I can't believe it.
And I was the first to tell him "Happy Anniversary" exactly at 12:00am.
It's always our little competition to try to be the first to wish each other whatever holiday it may be.
He tried but I distracted him and won!

Our life together has had it's ups and downs but everyday I realize how lucky I got.
Two years ago I thought I loved him.
I had no idea.

He has shown me time and time again how perfect he is for me.
His endless patience.
How he always makes me laugh.
He is always trying to bring unity to our marriage and family.
He shows me constant affection.
How he constantly wants the best for us.

Andrew, I love you more every day.
I am happier today than I was 2 years ago, because every day since then
means an extra day of my life with you in it.

Happy June 4th to everyone out there
because in our little world it's a very special day.

What Happens in Vegas

For Memorial Day my parents were taking a trip down to Vegas and invited Andrew and I along.
Of course we said yes! We are all for traveling and doing something different.
Vegas is defiantly something else and to be honest this was probably the best Vegas experience I've had.

Vegas always has something going on and something to see.

Something we loved about our trip was going to the WOW show and the name says it all.
It's somewhat like America's Got Talent- in fact some contestants from the show are in WOW. It has that
Vegas flair but it's a good family show. You know what I mean?

I highly would recommend it. My jaw was dropped the entire time in absolute amazement.

^The Bellagio hotel water show is always something we enjoy. It's a really scaled down version of World of Color
from Disneyland but still pretty neat to see^

One thing that I would not recommend is Fremont street. It's more the new Vegas which I am not a fan of.
The light ceiling was cool but that's it. Not worth it and it's not so family friendly.

Overall we did love our Vegas vacation. We swam, we ate, we partied.
And I'm really excited for summer which is in 2 days!!!
